Bodrum, home of the famous Greek historian Herodotus, is now better known as a popular holiday resort. Houses painted white and trimmed with purple bougainvillea and miles of sandy beaches great for water sports now sums up Bodrum. Two meters under its narrow streets lies 5000 years of history. A few monuments attest to this: the castle, the Myndus Gate, the Roman theatre and the Mausoleum. While the nights in Bodrum town itself are busy, the smaller villages offer cosy taverns and restaurants overlooking quiet bays and can all be reached easily by Dolmus, car or by boat.
